Cakes I’ve Made! My Decorating Journey so far….

Over the past 7 years, I’ve been very fortunate to run my own cake and cupcake business on the Gold Coast in Australia.

As well as making 500-1000 cupcakes every week for sale at a local market, I’ve also had the opportunity to create some gorgeous cakes for clients.

Being a cake decorator can be a love-hate relationship – I always love what I do, but sometimes things just don’t go according to plan and when a disaster occurs or a cake won’t conform, its generally just you and the cake at 4:00am (and sometimes a few tears) making sure the client gets what they’ve ordered, when they’ve ordered it for.

Events such as weddings, christenings and birthdays are always cause for celebration, and I thought perhaps some of you who have been following my YouTube channel and cake decorating journey might be interested in seeing some of the cakes that I’ve made and sold over the years.

Click on the video link below to check out some of my favourites 🙂

They range in skill level and span the full 7 years so some will be better than others, and these are just a handful of the ones I could fit into a 2 minute video.

I’ve loved this little walk down memory lane – it reminds me of the amazing cakes I’ve gotten to create (and the ones with not-so-amazing creation stories behind them) and it also shows me how far I’ve come as a decorator.

If I have one word of advice for aspiring decorators, its to invest in a small, inexpensive light tent from Ebay – for less than $70 you get a little tent, a couple of lights and a few different coloured backdrops.

Some of my earlier images could have been soo much better had it been for proper lighting and a decent picture and once that cake leaves your care, the photos you took are the only proof you ever made it – try to make sure they are good ones so you can ‘wow’ your next clients with your portfolio of beautiful images.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the cakes in my video – and I always love to see your shared creations on my Facebook page so I can see what you guys are creating at home!

xx

  1. I’m really happy that i’ve found your youtube channel and blogs for all the cakes that you have created, so beautiful. For myself i have no experience in baking,so your creations and lessons have motivate me a lot. I’m Indonesian,30yo,went to hospitality college and worked in Singapore for 6years as a frontliners. I hope it is not too late for me to start what i realize as my hidden will. I like the way you explain things, why we should do this and we should do that. It will be great if one day you can post about your baking backgrounds, your shops, your daily routinity or maybe how you keep your baking tools. Thanks a lot and thanks for the inspirations that have been given.

I was wondering if you ever tried to do a Dora cake? My niece wants one for her birthday and I couldn’t find anything nice on the net that doesn’t need a week of preparations:)
